The millefiori (thousand flowers) motif has shown up in Europe and Africa for over five hundred years. I want to learn where it originated, and where it is showing up in the world today.

Lois Sherr Dubin explains in her The History of Beads (New York: Abrams, 1987) how traders and explorers carried European glass beads throughout the world beginning in the late-fifteenth century. These beads followed trade routes and sea currents as currency and barter.
